Afternoon tea in the sand dunes of Holkham Beach

My favourite place for afternoon tea is up in the sand dunes on beautiful Holkham Beach, looking out over the vast stretch of unspoilt white-gold sand. I like finding my own private sheltered spot between the grassy hills. I’ll pack my picnic basket with teeny, tiny egg sandwiches, homemade scones, a few squidgy chocolate brownies and a juicy bowl of strawberries. The best strawberries are of course those picked locally, perhaps somewhere on route to Holkham – try Wiveton Hall between Blakeney and Cley. Tea is lovely in summer but, if the weather’s on the chilly side, bring a big flask of hot chocolate and extra blankets to snuggle in. I can sit for hours enjoying the endless horizon and huge sky.
